Since classes have been winding down, my mom and I have become crafting queens. We started a Pinterest board with all different quarantine crafts that we were hoping to do. The first thing I did was make some canvases with my sororities name on them. These will be given to our new members when they join next semester. I had a lot of fun with these, because it had been so long since I last painted anything. Next was something that I had been wanting to make for such a long time. It is a flower curtain to hang on the wall. It is great for photos, and easily takes up a lot of space on a wall and is very pretty. I knew this would be a lengthy task but was excited to do something to fill the time! My mom and I headed out to the dollar store to get all of my materials: about 20 packs of assorted flowers (all of the ones I picked were pink and white, my favorite colors), and one pack of twine. I watched some video tutorials before starting to hot glue the flowers to the twine, but it was overall very simple! Although easy to make, it just took a long time to glue everything down and make sure that the flowers were mostly facing front. When this was all done, I made 12 strands, and attached them to a piece of decorative wood, and hung it on my wall behind my bed. I think it looks great! I will definitely be bringing this to my apartment next semester and finding good use for it. But, my favorite task that my mom and I have been doing together is making masks for our friends and family. She taught me how to sew and assemble the masks, which is also relatively easy. It is a great way to pass time, and I actually really enjoy helping her make them. We have a lot of patterned material, and each person can pick what they like. It is mandated in New Jersey and Pennsylvania that people have to wear masks when going out, and not everyone has the ability or materials to make them, so it felt great to help some people out! Moral of this post is that being housebound has forced my family to be more creative with our time, but hopefully now that the weather is getting nicer, more outdoor activities can be added to this list!
